Welcome to Block Kitchen And Bar Victoria

538 Yates St #101, Victoria, BC V8W 1K8, Canada

General Info

Located in the heart of downtown Victoria, Block Kitchen And Bar Victoria is the kind of spot that instantly feels inviting the moment you walk in. The atmosphere strikes a balance between modern and relaxed, making it ideal whether you’re stopping by for solo dining or catching up with friends over small plates.

What really stands out here is the menu. It’s playful, creative, and clearly designed for sharing. The Korean Fried Chicken is a must-try-crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and coated in a bold, flavorful glaze that keeps you reaching for more. Right alongside it, the Tako Yaki delivers that perfect street-food vibe, warm and savory with a satisfying texture that feels authentic yet refined.

Then there’s the Japa Bao Dog, which honestly feels like the kind of dish you didn’t know you needed until you try it. It’s fun, slightly unexpected, and packed with flavor. The variety on the menu makes it easy to explore different tastes in one visit, especially if you enjoy sampling small plates rather than committing to just one dish.

If you’re someone who never skips dessert, you’re in for a treat. The Matcha Cheesecake offers a subtle, earthy sweetness that’s not too heavy, while the Chocolate Pudding leans rich and indulgent-perfect for rounding out your meal. Pair that with one of their signature drinks like the Birds of Paradise or the Rose and Lychee Martini, and the whole experience feels elevated without being overly formal.

Another thing worth mentioning is the flexibility of the services. Whether you’re dropping in for late-night food or just want a quick bite, the onsite services are smooth and accommodating. It’s the kind of place where you can linger or keep things casual, depending on your mood.

From what I’ve experienced, reviews often highlight not just the food but the overall vibe. The location itself makes it easy to access, especially if you’re already exploring downtown Victoria. Everything-from the thoughtful menu to the welcoming setup-comes together in a way that feels genuine and well put together.

What customers say?

“ Great location in town. Walking distance. Casual contemporary environment. Great share plates. The menu is excellent. The food delicious. The prices reasonable. The calamari is dynastic with a little kick. The seared tuna exactly what I’d hoped for. The salad” under the tuna a nice surprise. The Tokyo fries were wonderful with a smoky flavour. The dry rib tender and tasty. Highly recommend. The volume is moderate to loud but completely fine in a casual fun dining environment. Not a formal dinner place. ”

“ Best steak frites in the city in my opinion. Both the steak with the chimichurri and the fries are AMAZING. The jellyfish salad great as well. Will definitely return. ”

“ Had such great snacks at Block in Victoria! The wagyu beef gyozas were crisp and juicy, the boneless beef rib lettuce wraps had the perfect crunch. Paired with a delicious local BC Seven Stones Pinot Noir for perfection. Super attentive service and friendly servers. Overall a cozy vibe, tasty food, and definitely a spot we’ll be back to. ”

“ Great experience here with my wife. Shared a few dishes including okonomiyaki, Tokyo fries, some bao buns, and some creme brulee for dessert. Everything was great as was the service. One recommendation would be to be careful about ordering okonomiyaki, Tokyo fries, and perhaps takoyaki together as they all have similar ingredients so I suggest in hindsight to spread out the palate a bit. That is unless you absolutely love katsuobushi (bonito flakes), mayo, and takoyaki sauce (which we do). Don't get me wrong, they were absolutely amazing but the two were pretty rich when ordered together. Overall this restaurant is definitely worth more than a single visit. ”

“ This was me and my girlfriend’s first time eating here. We made a reservation for 3PM, which was really easy to do online. First off the service was amazing. We were greeted right away and super friendly staff. They have tons of really good happy hour options for everyone. We ordered the wagyu beef gyozas and the Korean fried chicken. Wow, it was some of the best I have eaten here in Victoria. I highly recommend coming to check this place out. ”

“ We walked into this place after checking online for Asian fusion and WOW!! Food was absolutely ridiculously good!! Amazing flavours , beautiful presentation, fresh, colourful. Great server who explained the menu and made recommendations. We are from out of town but will definitely come back on our next visit. To be atmosphere is cozy, but modern and eclectic. Can watch the chef's at work if you sit in the right spot. ”

“ Came here for a quick snack before going back to Vancouver. We tried their Red Devil Calamari & Saikoro Steak. The red sauce for the calamari was sweet and tangy, perfect for the deep fried food. The saikoro steak was superb. It was flavourful and the beef was still juicy inside. The service was good and atmosphere is cozy. ”
